Connect the bot & start playing

Works the same on Telegram and Discord — add the bot to a group, load a campaign, and everyone in the chat is a player.

Get set up

  1. Add the bot to your group. Invite ZMD-Bot (the engine behind ChatQuest) to a Telegram group or a Discord server channel. (On Discord it uses slash commands + buttons; on Telegram, commands + buttons.)
  2. Load a campaign. Send /loadmodule with your campaign JSON (or upload the .json file). Building one? Use the campaign builder first to validate and preview it. To load privately with no spoilers in the chat, use /dmload.
  3. Make characters. Each player runs /createchar and picks a class (fighter, wizard, rogue, cleric, ranger, barbarian, bard).
  4. Play. /look to see the room, /go to move, /attack and /cast in fights, /talk, /take, and tap the buttons. Try /help anytime.

Run /link in your game to get a private code, then sign in on the Store to publish your campaigns and browse what others have made — every listing shows whether it passes validation.

New to authoring? Head to the campaign builder — it explains the format and checks your work before you play.
